As a specialist in women’s sports physiology, I focus on how the menstrual cycle affects performance, recovery, and overall health in female endurance athletes. During my MSc in Sports and Exercise Science and Medicine, I led research investigating how the menstrual cycle influences performance in female ultra-endurance runners. My work explored how women use energy, regulate the nervous system, and adapt to training across different menstrual phases.

Understanding these physiological changes allows me to design safe, effective, and evidence-based training strategies for women—helping female runners/ultrarunners perform at their best throughout every stage of their cycle.

Injury Recovery and Rehabilitation

If you’re recovering from a running injury, I offer rehabilitation services to help you heal and safely return to running. I’ll guide you through the recovery process with proven strategies, ensuring a safe and effective return to your training regimen.

ME

I am Irene, a passionate ultra trail runner and a lover of human physiology.


I am a qualified UESCA running and ultramarathon running coach, a registered sports therapist, and hold a PhD in Biomedicine and MSc in Sport and Exercise Science and Medicine. I am an expert in women's health, having conducted research on performance changes associated with the menstrual cycle. In addition, I'm a professional and high performance with my own performance lab in Edinburgh.

My approach is all about training smartly and efficiently. I understand that every individual is unique. Therefore, I create personalised plans that are adapted to the specific needs of my athletes. I also place great emphasis on the mindset of my athletes during training and race prep, as mental preparation is just as important as physical preparation when it comes to racing.
